AIADMK condemns NLC share divestment

AIADMK cadre staged a demonstration here on Tuesday condemning the Congress-led UPA government for its decision to divest 5 per cent stake in the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). The demonstration held near the Khadi Kraft was led by party member and Tuticorin Mayor Sasikala Pushpa.

AIADMK Rajya Sabha member (elect) and the party’s Tiruchi rural district secretary T. Rathinavel, party MLAs R. Manoharan, M. Paranjothi, and N.R. Sivapathi, Mayor Jaya, and AIADMK functionaries took part.

Terming the decision as “anti-labour”, the demonstrators wanted the Centre to sell the NLC shares to undertakings owned by the Tamil Nadu government.

Thanjavur

AIADMK cadres staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office. The agitation was to condemn the alleged inaction of the Centre on the proposal of the Chief Minister to offer the shares to Tamil Nadu owned public sector undertakings.

Durai Govindarajan, State president of the farmers’ wing of the AIADMK, led the agitation. MLAs M. Rangasamy, M.Rathnasamy, and R. Doraikannu, Savithiri Gopal, Chairperson, Thanjavur Municipality and Amutharani Ravichandran, Chairperson, Thanjavur District Panchayat Council, participated in the agitation.

Tiruvarur

The cadres staged the demonstration in front of the Head Post Office led by K. Rajendran, assistant general secretary of All India MGR Mandram. Jayalakshmi Ambigapathy, Chairperson of Tiruvarur District Panchayat Council, took part.

Nagapattinam

AIADMK cadres led by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board Chairperson K. Thangamuthu staged protest in Nagapattinam in front of the head post office. Mayiladuthurai MP O.S. Manian, MLAs Pounraj, Kamaraj and Shakthi, urged the Centre to accede to the State government’s demand for acquiring 5 per cent stake in the Central PSU. Over 5,000 cadres participated in the agitation in front of the post office.

Pudukottai

A large number of cadre participated in the demonstration held in front of the head post office in Pudukottai. Raju, State president of Anna Toyilsangha Peravai, led the agitation. C. Vijayabaskar, K.P. Krishnan, Karthik Tondaiman, M. Rajanayagam, P. K. Vairamuthu, all MLAs, and V.C. Ramaiah, president of the District Panchayat, participated.

Karur

Hundreds of cadres of AIADMK staged demonstration in front of the Head Post Office in Karur led by party State propaganda Secretary and Karur MP, M. Thambidurai. MLAs A. Pappasundaram, and S. Kamaraj, and District Secretary Anna Trade Union, Porani K. Ganesan participated in the protest.

Ariyalur/Perambalur

The agitation at Ariyalur town was led by Nambirajan, state deputy secretary of the Jayalalithaa Peravai. Kavitha Rajendran, district secretary of the party, A. Elavarasan, MP, and Durai Manivel, MLA. In Perambalur, agitations were staged in front of the local post office led by Varagur A. Arunachalam, former Minister.
