AIADMK candidate files nomination papers

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate for the Pudukottai Assembly Constituency by-election Karthik V.R. Thondaiman filed his nomination papers here on Tuesday.

Accompanied by Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Subramanian, AIADMK Viralimalai MLA and party's district secretary Vijayabhaskar and a couple of party functionaries, Mr. Karthik Thondaiman submitted his papers to the Returning Officer Muthumari at the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer in the town.

Mr. Karthik Thondaiman filed two nomination papers with one of them proposed by the Party's former organising secretary K.R. Ganesan and the second paper by one of the ward secretary Abdul Rahim.

In a brief interaction with the media shortly after submitting his papers, Mr. Karthik Thondaiman said he was contesting the by-election with the blessings of Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa.

A large number of AIADMK cadre as well as State Ministers assembled in Pudukottai town in connection with the filing of nomination papers by Mr. Karthik Thondaiman on Tuesday.

Before Mr. Karthik Thondaiman filed his papers, a procession was taken out from Palaniappa Corner to MGR statue in which AIADMK Ministers including O. Paneerselvam, K.A. Sengottaiyan, K.P. Munusamy, Natham Viswanathan, N.R. Sivapathi, P. Kumar, MP, functionaries from various wings and large number of AIADMK cadre took part.

Mr. Karthik Thondaiman travelled in an open vehicle in the procession which passed through various places before culminating near the Public Office. Dr. Vijayabhaskar later told the media that due permission had been obtained from the official authorities for taking out the procession.

Forty-year-old Karthik Thondaiman was elected chairman of Pudukottai Municipality in the local body elections held in October last year. His father Vijayaraghunatha Thondaiman was elected MLA from Pudukottai thrice on Congress ticket - in 1967, 1977 and 1980.
