The Additional Director of Public Health K.Kulandaisamy reviewed the dengue control and prevention measures in the city on Wednesday. Apart from conducting separate meetings with the district officials and officials of the Tiruchi Corporation, Mr.Kulandaisamy also made field inspections to review the steps aimed at source reduction of mosquito breeding and other awareness initiatives.
On inspecting a few government premises in the city, Mr.Kulandaisamy ordered the Corporation officials to issue notices under the Public Health Act to the agencies concerned asking them to clear mosquito breeding sources such as tyres, tins, and craters found in their premises within 24 hours.
He also visited the Kallankadu and Airport areas where high incidence of fever was reported in the city and inspected the source reduction measures.
He instructed the Corporation officials to demolish ground level water sumps as they were a major source of breeding mosquito. Corporation employees should be provided necessary equipment and implement to demolish such structures, he said. At Kallankadu, he directed the officials to immediately transfer a patient with fever to the Government Hospital by ambulance.
Mr.Kulandaisamy appreciated the Corporation move to rope in nursing students in awareness and surveillance measures. He also participated at a meeting convened by the Corporation with hoteliers, marriage hall owners and residents associations in the city to persuade them to take up prevention measures at the micro level. Corporation Commissioner V.P.Thandapani and City Health Officer (in-charge) Senthil Kumar accompanied Mr.Kulandaisamy.
