The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has appealed to the State Government to direct the Treasuries in Tamil Nadu to sanction the September month salary bills for teachers of government and aided college by adopting ‘post-auditing’ method so that they get their September salary at least before the end of October.
In a representation to the Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi, K.Pandiyan, zonal secretary, AUT, pointed out that the government had announced pay revision for college/university teachers in Tamil Nadu on August 29. The offices of the five Regional Joint Director’s (RJD) completed the process of the revised pay fixation and the salary bills for the month of September are being sent to the treasuries only now, putting a lot of pressure on the officials at the Treasuries.
The Government should direct the Treasuries to adopt the ‘post-auditing method,’ under which salary bills are first sanctioned on the basis of undertakings, from principals/secretaries of the colleges and countersigned by the RJDs, that any excess payment would be debited from the teachers and credited into the government account.
The bills could be audited at a later date. Otherwise college teachers in Tamil Nadu would not be in a position to get the salary for the month of September this month. There was also a possibility of the problem overlapping into next month.
The AUT appealed to Mr.Karunanidhi to intervene in the matter and see to it that the salaries of the teachers were credited to their accounts at the earliest.
