The absence of organised parking lot at the second entrance of Tiruchi Railway Junction has irked the rail users and commuters.

Though the commuters mainly use the main entrance of the railway junction, a section of them prefer to reach the junction from the second entrance at the Railway Staff Colony in Kallukuzhi. Besides the local residents, mainly those living in railway quarters, a section of residents of T.V.S. Tolgate, Mannarpuram, Sangiliandapuram, K.K. Nagar and others prefer the second entrance as they find it easy to reach the platforms instead of travelling further to reach the main entrance.

Some of the commuters reach the second entrance of railway junction by two wheelers to catch trains to their nearby destinations by parking their vehicles. There are passengers, who park their two-wheelers near the second entrance, to book travelling tickets.

However, they find it difficult to park their vehicles in the absence of an organised parking lot at the second entrance. Following this, the commuters indiscriminately park their vehicles near the entrance.

Some of them park two wheelers at their will, causing inconvenience to the commuters and passengers. Some recall that there was a space provided for parking vehicles sometime back. However, it had been cancelled for the reasons best known to them.

“There is no system to regulate parking at the rear entrance of the junction. If there is a parking lot or an established system, we will use it properly. Indiscriminate parking can be avoided,” says R. Rajkumar of T.V.S. Tolgate, a regular user of second entrance of railway junction.

The authorities can use the sufficient space available at the rear entrance to set up additional parking lots.

“We do not know why the authorities have cancelled a space for parking vehicles at the second entrance. There is no space crunch at the second entrance. It can be used well for constructing additional parking lots,” said M. Kannan, a resident of Sangiliandapuram.
