AAI to build toilets in government girls schools

December 19, 2014 11:38 am | Updated 11:38 am IST - TIRUCHI:

As a social service initiative, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to build toilets in some government girls schools in the district.

The list of high and higher secondary schools situated at different places in the district for construction of toilets had been approved by the AAI regional headquarters authorities.

The AAI would execute the work in 15 government schools under the first phase as part of its corporate social responsibility activity.

Tenders had been floated for identifying the agency for execution of toilet construction works in the chosen schools in Tiruchi district, Airport Director B.C.H. Negi said. As per the plan, one toilet would be built in each of the identified girl school.

Airport authorities have proposed to complete the works before the end of this financial year. The government schools were identified in coordination with the Education Department authorities here.

The AAI would maintain the toilets for two years and hand them over to the respective school authorities thereafter, Mr. Negi said.

The plan was to build toilets in 45 schools in Tiruchi district – with 15 of them having been handpicked in the first phase, airport sources said.
