Sewage overflow on the Rockins Road near the Central Bus Stand caused much hardship to road users and motorists on Friday.

Motorists and pedestrians were often forced to wade through overflowing sewage around the bus stand, braving the stench and revulsion.

According to corporation sources, the problem was caused because of a technical glitch at the Junction Drinking Water Overhead Tank leading to an overflow.

The water from the tank mixed with sewage and flowed onto the road.

Steps were taken to rectify the problem, a senior official said.

Sewage overflow had been a recurrent problem around the Central Bus Stand in recent years and a series of the manholes around the area prone to overflow frequently, often because of blockages in the sewer line.
