A large number of passengers are seen stranded at the railway junction in Tiruchi on Sunday as the Southern Railway cancelled or terminated several trains.

Termination or cancellation of trains at the railway junction here on Sunday as a part of precautionary measure by the Southern Railway left hundreds of passengers, particularly those who had come by unreserved coaches, stranded.

The action was taken to avert any rail roko stir by volunteers and supporters of ‘jallikattu’ beyond Tiruchi. The Guruvayur-bound express train from Chennai was terminated at Tiruchi junction and was operated as Chennai-bound express train. Other major trains which were cancelled were Tiruchi - Dindigul, Tiruchi - Karaikudi Passenger and the Manamadurai - Tiruchi Passenger.

A section of passengers who alighted from the Guruvayur-bound express train, were seen caught unawares. Though they had bought tickets up to Madurai or Nagercoil, they were forced to get down and make their own arrangements for the onward transit.
