: S. Priyadarshini (26), the daughter S. Kalaivanan, a close relative of late DMK minister Aladi Aruna, died in a road accident on Tiruchi-Madurai national highway near Thuvarankurichi on Thursday.
Priyadarshini, who was a doctor in Chennai Corporation, was proceeding to Alangulam in Tirunelveli district along with her father, mother, younger sister and one-and-half-year-old daughter when the accident occurred.
Police said the car was driven by Ramesh, a driver, up to Tiruchi. Thereafter, Kalaivanan drove the vehicle towards Tirunelveli. Even as the vehicle was proceeding on the highway, Kalaivanan apparently lost control at a turning.
The vehicle rammed the median and plunged into a roadside ditch in the opposite direction.
Priyadarshini, who sustained grievous injuries, died on the way to the hospital. The remaining occupants of the car sustained injuries. The post-mortem was done at Tiruchi Government Hospital and the body was handed over to the family members. The Thuvarankurichi police have registered a case.
