Demand for restoring ‘jallikattu’

Members of Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office here on Monday urging the Centre and State governments to restore ‘jallikattu’ as a mark of recognition of the Tamil culture and martial arts.

They raised slogans urging the Centre to take steps to lift the ban on ‘jallikattu’. They also wanted the constitution of the Cauvery River Management Board.

They also urged the State government to sanction adequate relief to farmers who died due to drought-prone condition in the State.

P. S. Rajendran, District secretary, led the protest.

In Pudukottai, similar protest was organised near the Old Bus stand. C. Arul JustinDraviyam, district president led the protest.
