CB-CID sleuths seized over Rs. 25 lakh in fake currency from three persons, who were arrested on a tip-off, and had them remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
Based on a complaint lodged by Ramu from Pudukottai district, a real estate agent, who, on receiving a partial payment of Rs. 10,000 from a buyer of a plot of land at Kumarapatti near Fathima Nagar, suspected the genuineness of the currency in Rs. 1,000 denomination, a CB-CID team led by inspector Shanmugam arrested the trio: Krishnamoorthy from Iluppur, his accomplice 70-year-old Ramdass from Tirukattupalli in Thanjavur district, and Augustine from Palakurichi.
The police team initially arrested Krishnamoorthy and Ramdass near Viralimalai on Wednesday, and narrowed down on Augustine on Thursday at his home at Palakurichi near Manapparai from where the rest of the fake currency in Rs. 1,000 denomination were seized.
In all, Rs. 25,50,500 in fake currency was seized. The accused did not cooperate, police sources said.
