Forty-three illegal dyeing units that were functioning in villages near Pallipalayam were sealed by officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in a day-long drive on Wednesday. The drive was carried out amid police security.
District Environmental Engineer of TNPCB M. Murugan said that the drive has taken the total number of units sealed in Pallipalayam area to 55. “While a total of 59 illegal units were initially identified in and around Pallipalayam, only 12 units could be sealed during the drive on December 2,” he said.
He said that during the drive on Wednesday they sealed units at Andikadu, Sankari Road and Vannakuttai. The drive began at 8 a.m. and continued till 5.30 p.m. “About 15 more units have been identified and will be sealed on Thursday”, he said and was hopeful that all the illegal dyeing units that have been identified in Pallipalayam area will be sealed on Thursday.
However TNPCB officials expressed concern over the functioning of some illegal dyeing units that were sealed in and around Komarapalayam Town in Tiruchengode Taluk.
