Transport Department had provided jobs to more than 40,000 people in the last four years in the State, said Transport Minister K. N. Nehru.
Speaking at a function to distribute free colour televisions to beneficiaries in various Uppiliyapuram panchayat union on Sunday, Mr. Nehru said four lakh people had got jobs in various government departments in the present DMK rule.
The Tamil Nadu government has been a forerunner in the implementation of various welfare and development schemes in the whole country.
The Chief Minister took the bold decision to launch various industries on an outlay of Rs. 16,000 crore during a single Cabinet meeting. The government is concentrating on pooling and diverting all its resources for the welfare of the community and this has brought various welfare schemes at the doorstep of the common people.
Explaining the various schemes implemented in Lalgudi constituency in the recent past, Mr. Nehru said eight high schools and higher secondary schools had got new buildings.
The Central Government has planned to establish an ITI exclusively for women in Poovalur village during the current year.
The Minister said that he would provide five acres of land for the new IT and another five acres of land for the construction of new buildings for the Kalaignar Arts and Science College.
