36 surveillance cameras set up

They are erected at a cost of ₹ 30 lakh in Pudukottai

To ensure safety of people at various shops and bring down crime rate in the town, the police have set up 36 surveillance cameras at select places in the town at an expenditure of ₹ 30 lakh under the Road Safety Fund.

The cameras, set up at Tirugogarnam, Malaiyeedu, Palpannai Roundabout, Mettupatti and TVS area, will be monitored at Town, Tirugogarnam and Ganesh Nagar stations.

J. Loganathan, Superintendent of Police, explained the salient features of the programme.

The high resolution cameras will help identify culprits committing offences particularly chain snatching or vehicle lifting without any iota of doubt, according to police. The places were identified based on the data on crimes in the past.
