Thirty two per cent of the total huts to be converted into concrete houses under Kalaignar's housing scheme have been identified in the district so far, said Collector M. S. Shanmugham here on Tuesday.
He inspected the enumeration of huts for conversion into concrete houses by the officials at various places in the district.
He said that in Thanjavur district, a total of 1,56,944 huts were to be converted into concrete houses. Out of them, 46,570 huts, ie, 32 per cent have been identified, the Collector said in a press release.
He inspected the enumeration work going on at Thittai, Ramanathapuram, Thottakadu and Mathur villages in Thanjavur Panchayat Union, Pandaravadai and Sarabojirajapuram in Papanasam panchayat union, Kalyanapuram one and two, Rayampettai and Thirupazhanam in Thiruvaiyaru panchayat union.
Panchayat Assistant and People's Welfare Officer count the houses in the villages. Patta, ration card, house tax receipt, and electricity card are verified and details registered.
Huts on objectionable lands, poramboke lands and rented ones are not taken into account.
Concrete house will be constructed on 200 sq.ft at a cost of Rs. 60,000.
The Collector appealed to the officers involved in the work to collect correct details lest they have to face action. P. Mantrachalam, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), accompanied the Collector during his visit.
