Srirangam by-election: 29 in fray

Twenty-nine candidates are in the fray for the Srirangam by-election, scheduled to be held on February 13.

It will a multi-cornered contest with S. Valarmathi of the AIADMK, N. Anand of the DMK, M. Subramaniam of the BJP and K. Annadurai of the CPI (M) being the main contenders.

On the last day for withdrawal of nomination on Friday, five Independents withdrew their nominations.

Apart from the recognised national and regional parties, three candidates of registered parties, B. Hemanathan of the Janata Dal (United), R. James Paul of the Akila India Adithanar Makkal Katchi and V. Pandian of the Ezhuchi Tamilargal Munnetra Kazhagam, are in the fray.
