In an overnight combing operation launched in parts of the district since Thursday night, a total of 245 persons involved in various cases, were arrested.
The operation, which concluded in the early hours of Friday, resulted in the arrest of seven persons who were evading non-bailable warrants (NBW).
M.S.Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police, said that as many as 25 first-time offenders wanted in various cases were arrested. Absconding accused, rowdy elements, known depredators and ex-convicts – in all accounting for 18, were arrested, 303 M.V. cases
Mr. Muthusamy said that the focus was also on vehicular check-up. It resulted in registering 303 Motor vehicle offences. “A maximum of 183 cases were registered against petty offences. A total of 56 two-wheeler riders who travelled with more than two persons were also booked,” he said. The police also registered cases against 192 suspicious persons.
He said that the cases were registered with a view to infusing a sense of confidence among members of the public about the safety and security .
Divided into teams, the police comprising 625 personnel took up the combing operation.
