A 14-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Tiruchi on Wednesday.

The body of O. Kanakaraj, a class 10 student, was found lying near the track between Tiruchi and Poongudi railway stations with the rear side of the head smashed. The boy was a resident of Kothamangalam near Ramji Nagar and was studying in Government High School at Poongudi.

Railway Police sources said the boy had not been to school for two days. His mother asked him to go to the school which reportedly did not go well with him.

The boy left the house in the morning and allegedly committed suicide by coming in front of a train. His mother, who went in search of him, got the information about her son’s death sometime later.

Cowherds who spotted the body of the boy informed the local people who alerted the Railway Police. The body was taken to the Tiruchi Government Hospital for postmortem. The Government Railway Police, Tiruchi, has registered a case.

The State helpline can be contacted at 104 and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline at 044-24640050.
