The State government has sanctioned ₹10 crore for constructing new buildings for the Early Intervention Centre for Children and Counselling for Adolescents at the K.A.P. Government Medical College Hospital here.

The centre will be housed just opposite the paediatric ward on about 20,000 square feet. A Government Order to that effect has been issued recently.

Marry Lilly, Dean of the hospital, said that the selection of land had been approved. It would be implemented with the help of National Urban Health Mission (NUHN). Other procedures for starting the construction works had commenced. She said that it would have facilities for reception, children examination, physical training centre, vision test room, hearing test room and others. There would be a laboratory block as well.

The centre, which was started recently at the hospital, had received large number of patients from Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur. It would enable early identification of autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other disorders among children. Therapeutic equipment like bolster, platform and tyre tube swings for treating autistic children would be established.
