Work to shift the central median at East Fort further to the eastern side as part of a larger plan to decongest the bus-stand area has begun.

Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Corporation Ltd. (TRDCL) started the work on Saturday so as to increase the carriageway.

District Collector Biju Prabhakar said it would take at least a month to relocate the median close to the bus depot, as it involved replacing electric posts.

The city Corporation and the Kerala State Electricity Board have been asked to work in tandem to avoid any delay in replacing the electric lines. The TRDCL plans to provide additional bays at the bus-stand.

The Collector said this would take time as policy decisions had to be taken on rehabilitating traders and rescheduling the buses operated by the KSRTC from East Fort.
