Two women were killed in separate accidents in the district on Saturday.

A 39-year-old woman was killed after the car she was travelling in rammed a wall near Sreekaryam on Saturday. The City traffic police identified the deceased as Pushkala from Karamana. She was travelling with her husband Padmanabhan, who was driving the car, and five-year-old daughter Kamala. The family was heading home from Coimbatore when the accident occurred at Pangappara around 3.30 a.m.

The police said Padmanabhan could have dozed off. While Pushkala suffered serious injuries, the others escaped unhurt. She was rushed to Government Medical College Hospital, but her life could not be saved. A case has been registered.

In another incident, 70-year-old Saraswathy from Vellanad died after falling off a scooter near Vilappilsala. She was riding pillion on her son Venugopal’s scooter when the accident occurred around 8 a.m.

She was thrown off the scooter after Venugopal applied brakes suddenly to avoid hitting a dog. Saraswathy was rushed to the Government Medical College with severe head injuries. She died there.
