A woman and her nine-year-old daughter were found hanging inside their house at Idayar within the Poothura police station limits on Saturday evening.

Son rescued

The woman’s five-and-a-half-year-old son narrowly escaped death after villagers rescued him from the loop.

According to the police, the woman’s mother woke up from her evening sleep hearing the panic-stricken cries of the boy, who was found struggling in the rope loop tied to the ceiling of the next room. She immediately alerted the neighbours, who broke open the door. The police said by the time the neighbours could enter the room, the woman had died.

The daughter showed some signs of life and was rushed to the Government General Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The son has been admitted to a private hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. The woman, after seeking separation from her husband, was living with her children at her mother’s house. The police are currently conducting investigations to find the motive for the extreme act.
