The waste water disposal system at Rajaji Nagar Colony at Thampanoor will be renovated in a scientific manner using Rs.2 crore, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.
In a statement, the Minister said Rs.1 crore had been allowed for reconstruction of damaged manholes from the Thoppil Lane till Housing Board Junction while the funds necessary for the second phase of these works would be sanctioned from his Assembly Constituency Asset Development Fund next year. Once the waste water disposal system was renovated, the present system of the colony’s drainage outlets opening into the Pazhavangadi canal could be done away with, he said.
The reconstruction of the culvert on the Housing Board road was progressing while efforts were on to re-lay sewerage lines that were damaged in the Sreevaraham area.
These works would be completed ahead of the Attukal Pongala festival next year.
Funds had been sanctioned already for repairing and reconstructing manholes in Puthentheruvu and Anavaltheruvu; for laying a parallel sewerage line from the Karimadam Puthenroad till Kuriathy LP School Junction; for a new sewerage line in Pavithra Nagar; and for repairs on damaged manholes in Manacaud, Perunthanni, and Fort wards.
Funds were also allowed for tarring the Poonthura Alphonsa Colony road; construction of drain till the Moonnatumukku Bridge while work would shortly begin on the renovation of the Valiathura-Poonthura road.
The first phase of this work — from Valiathura to Beemapally — would be sanctioned Rs.1 crore from the MLA’s funds, the Minister added.
