Waste dumping: Fine imposed on 15 firms

Action to be taken against contractors who collected waste

The city Corporation has imposed a fine on 15 institutions for dumping waste material, including biomedical waste, near a water source in Paravankunnu, near Ambalathara, on Sunday morning. The local body has also identified the contractors who collect waste from the institutions and dump it in open spaces. Action will be taken against the contractors too.

The institutions on which fine was imposed are S.P. Fort Hospital, Thakkaram Hotel, Trivandrum Hotel, Horizon Hotel, Keys Hotel, Sabu Bakery, Hycinth Hotel, Arya Nivas Hotel, Vivanta by Taj, Saj Luciya, Edens Hotel, Anjali Bakery, Vigneswara Hotel, Pappa Restaurant and Venketeswara Hotel. Fine amount ranging from ₹1,000 to 25,000 was imposed on them, based on the type and amount of waste.

The Corporation authorities got a complaint regarding the waste dumping at Paravankunnu on Sunday morning.
