The interview for recruitment of medical staff for the 20 vacancies in the Airport Health Organisation Thiruvananthapuram on Monday ended in chaos.

Over 1,000 people from across the State had arrived at the venue at Akkulam early in the day and the interview got disrupted following objections raised by the candidates. The authorities did not anticipate such a turnout for the walk-in interview.

The interview was for the post of six medical officers, 10 staff nurses, and four health inspectors.

Pay scale

The pay scale varies from Rs.30,000 to Rs.46,000. For the medical officer, the qualification is MBBS.

A top official of the Airports Authority of India said they were not involved in any way in the interview or recruitment. The emergency medical services given at the airport by AAI to travellers are outsourced.

The medical staff was being recruited to be deployed at the airport to screen travellers coming from abroad when alert is sounded following outbreak of epidemic such as Ebola.

The AAI provides the room in the terminal building for the persons deployed.
