University of Kerala Syndicate member Johnson Abraham has demanded a Vigilance inquiry into the procedures relating to the granting of contract for the construction of a Rs.11-crore academic complex of the university.
A written complaint to this effect was submitted by Mr. Abraham to the Vice Chancellor and the same was taken up for discussion at a joint meeting of the Finance and Planning and Development standing committees here on Wednesday. The contract for consultancy and supervision of the construction work was awarded in violation of the existing norms of the Public Works Department, Mr. Abraham said here. The provision that the tender be notified in three national dailies was not followed.
‘Norms flouted’
The Local Fund Audit had also found that the decision of the university Syndicate, taken in 2003, was unilateral and not in keeping with norms, he said.
The academic complex is being constructed as part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the university. The joint meeting also decided to call for the relevant files and examine the matter in detail.
The committees would meet again in a week to discuss the matter, he added.
