The Thiruvananthapuram rural police have apprehended three people, including a minor, on charges of stealing motorcycles from various parts of the city.

The Kattakada police recorded their arrest on Sunday. The arrested have been identified as Manoj Kumar, 23, of Keezharoor; Aneesh, 24, of Aravankonam; and a minor. The arrest followed an investigation after several minors were found to be riding two-wheelers that were subsequently found to be stolen ones.

On interrogation, the gang members allegedly confessed to stealing motorcycles from various parts of the city, including Medical College, Thampanoor, Palayam, and Murinjapalam, in the past two years. They mostly targeted vehicles of patients and caregivers that were parked near hospitals.

They used to sell the stolen vehicles to young men, mostly minors, in exchange of high-end smart phones.

The minor member of the gang was tasked with identifying prospective customers for the stolen vehicles, the police said.

The gang is suspected to have sold many stolen vehicles to workshop owners in nearby places, including Mangalakkal and Poovachal.
