University of Kerala Vice Chancellor P.K. Radhakrishnan has termed ‘baseless’ reports in a section of the media that the varsity had been affected by an administrative impasse.

In an official statement, Dr. Radhakrishnan attributed the delay in convening the Syndicate to an ordinance that had been issued by the Governor to amend the Kerala University Act, 1974. According to him, certain aspects of the ordinance required clarity for which the Vice Chancellor has the legal and moral responsibility to seek the advice of the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University, and await instructions. As the ordinance pertained to changes in the constitution of the Senate, it is bound to affect the constitution of the Syndicate as well. In effect, convening a Syndicate meeting with members who are ineligible could nullify the decisions that have been adopted.

No hindrance, he maintains

Dr. Radhakrishnan also maintained that the varsity was functioning without any hindrance. During instances when the standing committees are unable to meet prior to the Syndicate meeti the powers have been vested on the VC under relevant provisions of the University Act to adopt the necessary decisions to ensure smooth functioning of the establishment.
