The long, anxious wait for results by students of various professional, arts, and science colleges under the University of Kerala is likely to end with the university coming out with a new set of guidelines for valuation of answer papers.
“The university is on a mission to streamline the valuation process at the academic and administrative levels for the timely publication of results. The target will be 45 days from the last day of the examination. This is to ensure adherence to the academic calendar in the best interests of the student community,” university sources told The Hindu.
The new system of valuation, as per the directive of State government, was likely to be introduced from the current academic year for the Engineering course. The draft of the ‘Fast track system for result publication’ has been prepared and it would be discussed at a meeting of Principals and representatives of self-financing colleges on November 23, they said.
As per the draft, the preparation for valuation would start by the time the registration for examinations concludes. By then, the number of candidates appearing for the exams would be known by then. By gathering the statistics pertaining to the number of students, a detailed plan for valuation can be prepared, they said.
“It gives a clear idea of the number of examiners, total number of scripts to be valued by each teacher, and number of days required for completion of valuation by teachers as per the existing pattern of valuation per day. The plan schedule could be made available to all the branches involved in the valuation process such as the collection unit, false numbering unit, camp wing, tabulation section, and Principals of the colleges concerned,” they said.
For Engineering, the university had estimated that there would be 10,000 answer sheets for valuation in five camps. Each college would need to depute two teachers per subject and they would have to work for 7 days. The camp would commence immediately after the examination, they said.
