Varsity for police sciences mooted in Kerala

A 11-member committee of the Kerala State Higher Education Council headed by jurist N.R. Madhava Menon has recommended the institution of a National University for Police Sciences and Internal Security (NUPSIS) in the State.

Initially estimated to cost the exchequer Rs. 24.70 crore, the proposed varsity would offer a four-year Bachelor of Police Sciences degree, a two-year Masters degree, M.Phil. and doctoral degrees and a host of diploma and certificate courses. There will also be a one-year Executive Development Course for senior officials of the security establishment modelled on the course offered by the National Defence College, New Delhi. While the Governor of Kerala will be the Visitor, the Chief Minister will be the Chancellor and the Home Minister, the pro-Chancellor of the varsity. A 21-member Board of Management will be the apex decision-making body.The draft NUPSIS bill prepared by the committee is available for reference on the HEC websitewww.kshec.kerala.gov.in.
