A 17-member team of students and teachers from the Kansas University School of Business and Colorado University visited the Attingal Municipality on Thursday.
In Thiruvananthapuram as part of their annual India study tour programme, the students were at Attingal to get firsthand information about the functioning of a local self-government institution.
The annual programme is designed to help the students learn more about India and about the possibilities of doing business in emerging markets.
They were accompanied by Sanjay Mishra and Anil Mishra of Kansas University.
Addressing the visitors, municipal chairperson S. Kumari detailed the various welfare schemes on offer in the municipality.
This included the Ashraya scheme, EMS Housing scheme, and a project to eliminate slums. THe waste disposal mechanisms in the municipality were also explained to the students.
She also described the scheme to offer pension to people over the age of 60, unmarried women above 50 years of age and those with disabilities, and about the Kudumbashree project.
Municipal officials also made a presentation about the waste management system at Attingal, a press note here said.
