Two held in cheating case

The Pothencode police on Friday arrested two youth, identified as Vineesh, 22, and Amit Raj, 21, both residents of Plavila, near Pothencode, on charges of creating a fake profile on the social networking site Facebook and allegedly cheating people by collecting money in the guise of doing charity work

According to the police, one of the arrested Vineesh claimed to be a doctor and collected money from people promising to utilise the amount for charity work.

The fraud came to light when a woman resident of Vazhavila, near Pothencode, became suspicious of Vineesh’s activity.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she gave 15 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 5,000 in cash to Vineesh for taking up charity work.

She became suspicious and decided to lodge a complaint with the police when he demanded more money.
