Two persons were nabbed by the City police on Tuesday for allegedly extorting money from a youngster after abducting him.
According to the police, Maheen Kannu of Poonthura and Sheeba of Vattappara were arrested by the Vanchiyoor police after being caught by a city shadow police team. They have been accused for abducting the victim, a student, in an autorickshaw at the Overbridge junction of Friday night.
“Maheen initially offered the victim a lift and later, Sheeba joined them a short distance away. They blackmailed him by threatening to raise false accusations against the complainant of sexual abusing the woman. After obtaining an amount of Rs. 5000 that the victim was forced to withdraw from an ATM, the duo dropped him at the Pulimoodu junction. The incident was brought to the notice of the police after the youngster’s parents filed a complaint,” an official said.
Maheen was soon arrested on the basis of a CCTV footage, using which the autorickshaw was tracked down. He later revealed the whereabouts of Sheeba, who was also apprehended by a team led by Assistant Commissioner (Control Room) Suresh Kumar. They were remanded to judicial custody after being produced at a local court. (EOM/SBG)
