The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has suspended two of its officials in connection with the “security breach” which caused the mischievous planting of a firecracker on board a King Fisher airline that arrived here from Bangalore on April 21. Official sources said the suspended officials were an inspector and a sub-inspector who were in charge of security of the airport terminal building on that day.
Earlier, the police had arrested Rajasekharan Nair, a former CISF official and employee of United Aviation Service (UAS), a private firm contracted by several airline companies for their ground operations, on the charge of planting the firecracker.
Sources said the suspended officers had used handheld metal detectors to check cleaners and cargo handlers, including Nair, who entered the aircraft after it landed at 8 a.m. The devices did not detect the presence of the explosive as it did not contain any metal part. The CISF has now asked its men to frisk all staff in charge of ground operations at the airport.
