The city police on Sunday arrested two persons with alleged possession of 10 kilograms of ganja.
Speaking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner of Police Arul B. Krishna said the persons arrested, identified as Johnny, 48, of Amaravila, and Thomas, 31, of Kazhakuttom, were suspected to be large-scale peddlers of the contraband.
They were apprehended by a shadow police team, whose members claimed to be peddlers who sold cannabis in small quantities. After managing to gain Johnny’s trust, the police personnel sought a large amount of ganja from him. He was caught on Saturday, following which he purportedly revealed that he had handed over some quantity of ganja to Thomas a few days ago.
The accused has been found to be an habitual offender having been caught by the police and Excise officials previously.
Based on the information, Thomas was nabbed from Pettah with alleged possession of the contraband. The city police began its efforts to bring Johnny to book after receiving information that numerous ganja peddlers, who were caught recently, sourced ganja from him, the official said.
