The City Corporation council on Monday approved a resolution increasing ticket rates in five theatres in the city. The fare has been increased by Rs.10 for balcony and reserved first class tickets in Kripa, Dhanya, Remya, and Krishna (Kazhakuttam) theatres, whereas in Sree Padmanabha theatre, the charge is up by Rs.20.
With this the ticket rate in Sree Padmanabha theatre has become Rs.70 for balcony seats and Rs.60 for reserved first class tickets. The ticket rates for the other four theatres will now be Rs.60 for balcony and Rs.50 for reserved first class. The new rates will come into effect from March 23. Mayor K. Chandrika said that the Corporation had decided to revise the ticket rates following the request of the theatre owners and as per the upgrade of facilities in these theatres. The council also approved the constitution of a technical committee chaired by Ms. Chandrika for supervising the implementation of the e-government project of the Corporation.
A discussion on scarcity of drinking water in coastal areas of the city led to heated arguments between the Opposition and ruling members of the council. The councillors were reacting to the resolution moved by Punjakari councillor A.J. Sukarno requesting the State government to allocate Rs.12.3 crore for Thiruvallam-Judgikunnu drinking water scheme. UDF council party leader Johnson Joseph moved a resolution requesting the Central government to withdraw move to shift the railway reservation counter from the LIC building in Pattom.
