Three killed in bus accident near Nagercoil

Three people were killed and eight persons injured when a Thiruvananthapuram-Bengaluru private Volvo bus overturned at Kavalkinar, about 25 km from Nagercoil late Thursday.

According to information available from the Thiruvananthapuram and Nagercoil offices of Kallada Travels, the private bus service provider, the deceased were identified as Ashish Choudhary of Jharkhand, who boarded the bus from Thiruvananthapuram; Alfred of Tirunelveli and Shamsuddin of Kulasekharam, both from Tamil Nadu and who boarded the bus from Nagercoil.

Eight persons were injured, none of them seriously and were admitted to a government hospital in Nagercoil, a spokesperson of the travel service told The Hindu over phone from Nagercoil. The bus is suspected to have gone out of control and turned turtle while negotiating a sharp curve around 11.15 p.m. on Thursday, he said.

Personnel of the travel service were in touch with the local police and hospital authorities. Further details are awaited.
