Three arterial roads in the capital city will be widened and modernised, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said here on Thursday.

Survey work on the Kaithamukku-Passport Office-Kavaradi road, the Shanghumughom-Vettukad-Veli road, and the Vazhuthacaud-Xanadu Junction-Bakery Junction road would begin soon, a press note issued here quoted the Minister as saying.

He was speaking after participating in a meeting called to evaluate the progress of various Public Works Department (PWD) projects in the city.

The Thakaraparambu flyover would be opened to traffic before March 31, he said.

The Minister directed the District Level Purchase Committee to meet expeditiously to purchase the land necessary for the construction of an additional rail overbridge at Pettah. The PWD and Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. were directed to ask the revenue authorities to take over land for the construction of the rail overbridge at Melarannoor.

Preparatory to the reconstruction of the Vallakkadavu bridge, land would be acquired not just from the ‘Yathimkhana’ but also from the other side of the road. The Kerala Road Fund Board was directed to construct a median on the All Saints’ College- G.V. Raja junction.

It was decided that a two-stage tender would be called for the construction of a multi-storey building at Cotton Hill Government Higher Secondary School.
