Kaduva , a play presented by the Cochin Port Trust, has won the M.K.K. Nair Memorial Award at the Sargasangamam theatre festival 2011 organised by HLL Lifecare Limited and the State Bank of India.
A release issued by HLL Lifecare here on Monday said the play Godoye Kaathu (Waiting for Godot) presented by HLL Lifecare won the second prize for the best drama.
Santhosh Sowparnika who directed the play has been adjudged the best director. The best play will get a cash prize of Rs.25,000, plaque, and citation. The second-best play will get Rs.15,000 and a trophy. Dr. Santhosh will get Rs.5,000 and a trophy.
M.V. Gireesan who presented Achuthan Sir in Awasthantharam presented by Keltron is the best actor. He will get Rs.3,000 and a trophy.
Sreekala who donned the role of Amba in Mukthidhara is the best female actor. She will get Rs.3,000 and a trophy. P.Gopakumar who won the second-best male actor award for his role of Ayoob in Ottapalam will get Rs.2,000 and a trophy.
10 plays staged
As many as 10 plays were staged by employees of various industrial units at the festival for five days from November 8.
The jury was headed by thespian Kavalam Narayana Panicker. The awards will be presented at a function to be held at the Panchayat Association Hall at Vellayambalam here on November 26.
