The patients of Ward 9 at the General Hospital in the city will now be able to enjoy their free time watching television.
The ward received a new television set, which was presented by the city-based Matha Vanitha Charitable Society. The gesture was done as part of the 13 anniversary of the society, which has been providing noon meals daily to nearly 100 patients of ward 9 of the General Hospital, for the past 13 years in the city.
Superintendent of General Hospital A. Fazeelathu Beevi inaugurated the 13 anniversary of the society at a function held at the hospital premises on Thursday. As part of the anniversary, the television set was handed over to the hospital authorities. Financial assistance was given to the children of Satheesh Mudavanmugal, a patient at the hospital and to Sajitha, the home nurse at the ward on this occasion. Gopalakrishnan, an auto driver who has been transporting the food for the society, and Sabu, who has been providing free cable TV connection for the ward 9 were felicitated at the function.
The society, which began functioning in the year 2000, have been helping the people of ward nine, which is exclusively for the abandoned and the destitute. The society has also been supplying essential materials such as clothes, medicines, and medical equipment for the people of this ward.
