Technopark casts a safety net

February 08, 2013 11:34 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:30 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Technopark campus may soon have prepaid autorickshaws for women to travel safely.

Senior Business Development Manager, Technopark, M. Vasudevan told The Hindu that this was among the initiatives being planned to provide better security to the IT park’s employees.

The suggestions came from Prathidhwani, a socio-cultural organisation of Technopark employees, which had organised a campaign for women’s security recently on the campus.

The other suggestions are a three-digit telephone helpline, police aid post on the campus, regular patrolling near the main gate, compulsory cab services for women employed after 6 p.m., proper verification of ID cards, and extension of Tech Express (special bus service by Technopark and the KSRTC) till 10 p.m. Around 3,500 Technopark employees signed the suggestions. Representatives of Prathidhwani submitted the proposal along with online signatures to Technopark officials on Wednesday. According to Rajeev Krishnan, secretary of Prathidhwani, the campaign provided women an opportunity to speak about the security needs on the campus.

“We held talks with the Mayor and Corporation officials about the autorickshaw service,” Mr. Vasudevan said.
