Doctors defer agitation plan

Health Service doctors have deferred their agitation programmes, including the strike declared on September 27, for a period of one month, following talks with the Health Minister and the Additional Chief Secretary (Health).

Doctors, who have been on a non-cooperation strike for the past several weeks following the government’s failure to resolve the anomalies regarding pay in the recommendations of the Tenth Pay Commission, had announced earlier that they would strike work on September 27, boycotting all patient care activities, except emergency services.

Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) leaders said that following the talks, the government had agreed to reinstate the salary of doctors, with new basic pay scales for all posts, and to correct the anomalies in special pay. — Special Correspondent
