Filipino film Sta. Nina , directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo, won the Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) award at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) which concluded here on Friday. Francisca Silva won the Rajatha Chakoram (Silver Crow Pheasant) award for the best director for her movie Ivan’s Woman .
The awards were given away by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the valedictory ceremony held at Nishagandhi Auditorium, Kanakakunnu, here. Nitin Kakkar bagged the Rajatha Chakoram for the best debutant director for Filmistan . Joy Mathew’s Malayalam movie Shutter won the audience poll award for the best film. Iranian movie The Last Step , directed by Ali Mosaffa, and Today, the Alain Gomis film from Senegal, got Special Jury Mentions.
The Repentant , an Algerian movie directed by Merzak Allouache, won the best competition movie award instituted by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) while the FIPRESCI award for the best Malayalam movie went to K. Gopinathan’s Ithra Matram . The Hindi film ID , directed by Malayali director K.M. Kamal, won the Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award for the best Asian film in the competition category. The NETPAC award for the best Malayalam film went to Ee Adutha Kalathu directed by Arunkumar Aravind.
The Hassankutty award for the best Indian debut director, instituted by film-maker Meera Nair in memory of her assistant director Hassankutty, went to Manoj Kana, who directed Chayilyam , a film that was produced with contributions from over 2,000 people.
Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph presided over the function.
