The sixth convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram, (IISER) was held at its campus on Monday.
Goverdhan Mehta, University Distinguished Professor and Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy Chair, School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, was the chief guest on the occasion. He urged the graduates to remain lifelong learners and treat self-discovery and calibration of aspirations as a continuum. He also exhorted students to contemplate about the real-life challenges that awaited them.
Prof. Mehta advised them to unleash their creativity and passion-driven instincts to follow the footsteps of Srinivasa Ramanujan, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk and Steve Jobs. Students must also aspire to become entrepreneurs and innovators. They must execute their ideas by developing attributes of hard work, persistence and risk-taking ability.
Delivering the presidential address, Tessy Thomas, Director General (Aero), DRDO, and chairperson, Board of Governors, IISER-TVM, emphasised on the role of graduates in creating a pool of scientific manpower towards the development of the nation.
Director V. Ramakrishnan, Registrar M. Radhakrishnan, Dean (Academics) M.P. Rajan and others were also present during the function.
The convocation witnessed the graduation of 15 Ph.D. scholars, two masters students and 119 BS-MS dual degree students.
