Adolescence is the time when concepts such as loyalty and trust strike deep roots in the minds of all, the time when the value of friendship is pegged higher than anything else. Students from Kendriya Vidyalayas in Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram were taken through the highs and lows of peer group network during adolescence on the first day of a two-day training programme at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, here on Friday.

“The final outcome of adolescence should be like an algebraic equation in equilibrium,” Col. S.P. Bhatt, Commanding Officer at the Military Hospital, Pangode, said, while inaugurating the training session. “Adolescence is a beautiful phase in human life. But, it is a challenge too,” he said.

Amar S. Fettle, State Nodal Officer for Adolescent Health, Directorate of Health, in his introductory remarks said the training programme was intended to inculcate leadership qualities, enhance awareness of self to contribute towards development of a positive identity, and define roles and responsibilities of the peer facilitators.

“This is the first time that the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has organised a training programme for students to become mentors of their peer group,” K.B.K. Unnithan, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, said.
