Stir for housing scheme

Members belonging to the Left Democratic Front in the Kallara grama panchayat staged a hunger strike on Monday demanding the speedy implementation of the EMS Housing Scheme.

The agitation also sought to highlight the exclusion of eligible families from the list of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) scheme launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to provide health insurance coverage for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

J. Arundhati, MLA, inaugurated the protest meeting held in front of the panchayat office. Panchayat members R. Mohan, K. Santhakumar, G. Rajendran, A.R. Shaji, M. Muraleedharan, E.S. Sajitha Devi and Leenakumari participated in the hunger strike. Leaders of the CPI(M), CPI, DYFI, AIYF and Karshaka Sangham spoke.
