The phenomenal advances made in space science and atomic energy have accelerated the economic development of the country, Dr. B.N. Suresh, Director, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, said here on Monday.
He was inaugurating ‘Face to Face with Frontiers in Science', a programme organised by the Swadeshi Science Movement.
Dr.C.S.P.Iyer, chairman, organising committee, stressed the need to adopt exciting and innovative methods of teaching to make science more acceptable for the student community.
“There is a need for more emphasis on experimentation rather than the study of books. This alone can motivate students to take up a career in science,” he said.
Father Philip of St. Joseph's School, venue of the programme, P.N. Subramaniam, Dr. K.Murugan and Sreekumar also spoke.
As many as 64 students from 20 schools in and around the city are participating in the week-long programme. They will interact with scientists and technology experts drawn from scientific and research institutions.
