State to seek German aid for water transport project

The State Cabinet has cleared the proposal to avail of Rs.631.65-crore German assistance for the Kochi Integrated Water Transport Project. The State government will bear Rs.103 crore of the total project cost.

The Cabinet decided to appoint 41 Ayurveda therapists and 15 special government pleaders. It also decided to appoint R. Parvathy Devi and P. Suresh Kumar as members of the Public Service Commission (PSC). Ms. Parvathy Devi, daughter of late Marxist scholar P. Govinda Pillai and wife of former legislator V. Sivan Kutty, is a journalist with long experience in both print and electronic media and an active participant in women’s struggles.

Ex-gratia assistance

The Cabinet decided to provide an ex-gratia assistance of Rs.3 lakh each to the next of kin of Rajasree and Jayasree, who had drowned in Kasaragod and Rs.3 lakh to the next of kin of Joby Johny, who had died in a landslip at Kattappana in Idukki.

It decided to provide an assistance of Rs.5 lakh each to M.V. Raju of Kuttanada in Alappuzha for cancer treatment and to the family of Abhi, the child who had died in a water tank collapse at Kottarakkara in Kollam district. It also sanctioned Rs.5 lakh to T.A. Razak, film director and scenarist, for treatment for renal failure and Rs.2 lakh to the family of Arin Biju, the child who had died in a road accident at Valliyoor in Tamil Nadu.
