August 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The deadline for installing speed governors for motor vehicles having a gross weight of above 3.5 tonnes has been extended by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) from July 31 to October 31. As per this, all stage carriers, tipper lorries, heavy transport vehicles, educational institution buses, except three wheelers, tankers and vehicles transporting hazardous materials, will have to install speed governors approved by the government as notified on August 1 and will have to follow the speed limits, the State Transport Commissioner said in a release here on Thursday.

Transport Minister A. K. Saseendran has called a meeting of the organisations at the Secretariat on August 16 to discuss the issues pertaining to the speed governors.
