A district court here on Saturday sentenced the six convicts in the murder of 26-year-old Bosco Bernard near the Veli Church in 2001, to imprisonment for life.
First Additional District and Sessions Judge P.D. Sarangadharan delivered the sentence in the case in which Eapen, Clement James, Rajan Marian, Lean Marian, Kunjumon Kochu Antony and Biju James were found guilty on Thursday.
They were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Bosco and imprisonment for five years for the attempt to murder the deceased’s relative Herbert.
However, both punishments can be served concurrently.
Rs. 1.25-lakh fine
A fine of Rs. 1.25 lakh has also been slapped on each of the convicts.
Of the total fine amount, an amount of Rs. 5 lakh must be given to Bosco’s family and Rs. 50,000 to Herbert as compensation.
The case related to an incident that had taken place in 2001 when Bosco was murdered and Herbert seriously injured in a clash that had taken place owing to a long-running feud in Thumba village.
Public prosecutor Kovalam C. Suresh Chandrakumar prosecuted the case.
